Artist Profile
Kathryn Jayne is a UK-based installation and performance artist working at the intersection of ritual, embodiment, and transformation. Their practice investigates how the body functions as both archive and altar, a vessel where love, grief, rage, and collapse coexist as fundamental conditions of being human.
Working through cycles of metamorphosis, Jayne explores themes of attachment, surrender, devotion, and release. Their performances navigate tensions such as holding and letting go, destruction and emergence, intimacy and rupture. Rather than resolving these dualities, they inhabit them, examining what it means to feel fully in a time that increasingly rewards detachment and emotional suppression.
Drawing from lived experiences of pilgrimage and encounters with sacred landscapes, Jayne translates elemental metaphors of fire, ash, threshold and void into stripped-back, immersive environments. Fabric, sound, repetition, and durational gesture become tools for transmutation. The body becomes a vessel through which density can be witnessed, honoured and released.
Influenced by Romantic and Gothic aesthetics alongside contemporary performance practices, Jayne creates spaces where vulnerability operates as strength. Their work invites audiences to confront what has been quietly held within them, grief, rage, longing and to consider feeling as a radical act.
In an era marked by instability and systemic fracture, Jayne’s practice asks: what must be surrendered in order for something more honest to emerge?
